So throw those cutains wide, one day like this a year'd see me right

This was my first A3 black paper commission, after I'd sourced some nice black A3 paper (and not the rubbish kraft paper which is really pulpy and not good for cutting). It was tricky printing the design (in black) onto black paper to still enable me to see it to cut it out. My anglepoise lamp pulled down practically touching it seemed to do the trick!

What do you think? Rubbish iphone pic again... not in focus or nuffnk.

In other news... my amazing husband G is currently insulating and tongue & grooving (that's wood, fact fans) out the inside of my neat little new garden studio. It is going to be amazing. I can't wait to move in. I'll post pics when it's all done.

Inspiration for the interior is coming from sneak peeks at Design*Sponge... although if I achieve even half as nice as some of those offices I'd be one happy bunny.

Can't take my eyes offa you...

Rubbish iPhone pic... apologies. I shouldn't be so frikkin' lazy and actually get my big ole camera out. Anyway, it's too late because this one is framed, bubble-wrapped, tissue-papered and boxed up ready to go now. And there's no WAY I'm unpacking it, even for you ; )

And they say romance is dead...

This order was sent in from a man getting his wife a beautiful, thoughtful Christmas present. So 1) he is VERY organised and 2) a romantic! Awwww it really does warm the cockles of your heart doesn't it?

For any of you out thinking the other half will be panic buying presents in the shops at 5pm on Christmas eve, it might not happen! Or just leave this post open on your computer... *AHEM* "read this, darling!"

Doo da doo doo or doo da doo not?

Here's a large commission I've just cut from A3. I wasn't sure about the 'doo da doo doo' at first but I kinda like it now... It'll look even better once I've framed it.

In other news, my garden studio is getting delivered and put up tomorrow. I am soooo excited. It also means I can move all my papercut stuff out of the spare room so we can magically transform it into the nursery. Only 10 weeks to go before we need it (unless the sticky bean comes early... eeeek).

Up above the clouds

I'm currently trying to clear a backlog of commissions before the notonthehighstreet Christmas rush sets in and this was one of the papercuts off to its new home today:

Its from Turin Brakes song 'Above the clouds' from the beautiful album 'Jack in a box'. I love getting commissions, it's even nicer when they are words that I wish I'd thought of!

A bit of WOO! in the post

I got in from work and the new notonthehighstreet Christmas catalogue had been delivered. WOO! It's not due to be sent to everyone who wants it (750,000 discerning customers no less) until next week, but I guess if you feature in it* they send it to you for a bit of WOOness.

Quick! Open it!

2 pages in, peepo! On 'Holly's Favourites' page

Lovely colour wall they've photographed it against.

Another lovely commission

This is for an anniversary. It took a fair while to design and to cut out. I was stressing initially over the amount of words. It is under my 20 limit, but I guess there's quite a few longies in there which kinda make me sweat in the design process. But I think it turned out ok, what do you reckon?

Do you see my scalpels on the left? My trusty tools of the trade. They are ready for their close up...

The long one is a good old Swann Moreton (no3 handle with a 10A blade fact fans!). I've adapted it with a choice fabric plaster for finger comfort. The squat purple one is a Fiskars 'fingertip' swivel scalpel. I got it from HobbyCraft and it's the best I've found so far. I am on the hunt for an X-Acto knife, but thus far no luck : (

On another matter it's getting pretty tricky to lean over my desk with my big ole belly. The baby kicks and kicks and tickles my hip bones. I do love it though...

A heads up...

My papercuts are going to be featured on the 'Holly's Favourites' page of the notonthehighstreet Christmas catalogue and I'm getting very excited about it plopping through my letterbox! Although I am having to brace myself for a super duper busy season - at precisely the time I should be relaxing on maternity leave!

The papercut featured in the first Christmas catalogue (being delivered around 11th October) is my 'All you need is love' which will be a lasercut version. In the second Christmas catalogue (due around mid-November) they're featuring my incredibly popular 'God only knows' design - also lasercut.

This is an image from the photoshoot notonthehighstreet did with my papercut. Nice styling huh?

Why lasercut? I hear you ask... well I've decided to give it a go, its not cheating - my design is the same. I guess it's the same as buying an art print as opposed to an original screenprint. Besides, I am very pregnant and need all the help I can get!

So - the personalised papercuts won't be available, nor will the personalised baby names. And the only designs that will be available are:
Right, I'm off to buy HUGE supplies of bubblewrap, frames, tissue paper and all that gumf.
Happy Friday!
